Coining

I have just come up with a new term:

midi-chlorian effect, the ~ where you take a perfectly excellent idea and stuff it.

May I never suffer from it.

That is all - a short one for a change.
(apologies to those who like Ep 1 - I salute you... Please excuse my cheekiness this is truly meant in jest.)

DM-
You know that sinking feeling you get in the pit of your stomach, when a movie or TV show unexpectedly tips over the edge of the abyss?
Had exactly that feeling watching PHANTOM MENACE, when they brought up...
midi-chlorians.
So... all I need is a blood transfusion to go all psychic ninja and play with a lightsaber?
Sheesh.
Talk about jumping the shark.
What makes it worse is that the movie entirely contradicted the SW mythology established earlier... but considering the hatchet job he did on Obi-Wan Kenobi as of RETURN OF THE JEDI, I suppose I couldn't expect anything better.
=whew!=
Rant over.
May you escape the pernicious fate of the midi-chlorian, sir.

I couldn't think what you were talking about for a minute... because I'd blocked Ep 1 from my memory. Oh, the pain! Star Wars (original incarnation) was the first film I ever saw at the cinema. At the State Theatre in Sydney, back when they were still showing movies there. An unforgettable experience and one I didn't want tainted by midi-chlorians!!

wow, I can't believe no-one's used that before; it's perfect!

...even though I do think midi-chlorians were one of the better products of that sludge-fest.

Just a quick comment to say that I purchased 6 copies of book 1 Foundling from Amazon to give away to friends. I much preferred the UK cover illustration (which the local library in Evanston IL had) to the US one. However, the quality of the book is superb from the wonderful wrap around cover, to the fine paper and the beautiful type. Most of my library consist of inexpensive paperbacks, so these copies are luxurious and awesome. I've been thinking that the only director who could do justice to bringing MBT to the big screen would be Guillermo Del Toro of "Pan's Labyrinth" fame. If you have not seen that film you must run out and do so.

Thanks so much for creating a truly original world, peopled by fresh, fascinating and compelling characters.

Ah Dan Tong it has been a while. My absolute pleasure, sir!

I could equally say thank you for enjoying my ideas so much, for entering into the H-c with me... for buying six copies to give away to friends! You should be a publicist (sp?)!

Dare I admit I have not seen Pan's Labyrinth yet - I guess I have homework now... other than writing Book 3, that is.

*gasp* You should certainly see Pan's Labyrinth, DM. In fact...I think I'm going to have to insist on it. ;)
