Ompholascepsis [SPOILER WARNING]

I tell you, the navel issue has been baking my noodle for a few years now, but I am of the notion that our hero would possess an ompholic dent that would pass enough as a navel. With the often more rudimentary delivery of babies in the Half-Continent I am thinking that there would be such a variety of quality of "belly-buttons" that Rossamünd's little dent would not look too out of place.

As to theroid (or therian or theraphim) for monster but teratologist for monster-hunter (thank you, master portals):

~ "thera" and "teratos" are both Attic words for monster, so it is simply the use of different root words that accounts for this variation. More-over, it is common in both Attic and the English language (and therefore Brandenard too) that "t" and "th"are exchanged with each other in the development of a word, especially "th" being shortened to "t".

How's that for some answers?

BTW, ompholascepsis means "navel-gazing".

Ah. What a relief. Rossamund is not...ompholasless?

Pallys (pronounced pallis): a bedtime story that starts out innocently enough but evolves into something far darker and quite simply ridiculous, causing the children many sleepless nights.

Noelle-
In the previous post I did not mean there would be no mark, just that he would not have a belly-button. Sorry about that.

oidis- acidic hair removing chemical.

Well THAT certainly cleared out a lot of things. To think that we had a 25 comment conversation of Rossamunds belly button. Aye, we be strange folks.

And I've asked this question once or twice and it never actually got answered (or maybe it did and I missed it); About how old is Europe? She looks either a very tired young woman or a good looking old woman. xD

Raincil: A machine that operates on rain. (or having some sort of liquid dropped onto it.)

Well, I guess that answers one of my questions about Book 3... not that I was curious about the navel (or had even thought about it), but rather how the results of a certain test were going to turn out...

Ok. what can we argue about now? :)

ledha: a horseshoe designed for better grip on slick surfaces

It's going to be hard to top belly buttons.

Gatis: a tower added on to a house years after the house was actually built and therefore looks very out of place with the rest of the house.

Perhaps we could argue about me goofing up and posting a big spoilery bit...

Not that much of a Bad thing in my Book....

Well, did anyone doubt Rossamund's 'unusual' origins? Not many prepubescent boys can lift a barrel of lead shot. (At least none that I know.)

R.J. Anderson said...

Well, I didn't doubt Rossamund was at least of semi-monstrous origin given his abnormal strength and stamina (which I noticed in the middle of Book 1 when he carried Europe how far down the road to the inn?) and the other clues planted along the way. But I was not yet convinced that Swill's accusations and explanations of Rossamund's origins would prove completely correct. Thus my failure to speculate about Rossamund's having a navel or not; after all, as Holmes reminded Watson, it is a capital error to theorize without [sufficient] data. :)

However, since Mr. Cornish has kindly provided us with sufficient data (and even a tentative answer), well, huzzah!

And also: AWESOME.

How about ... I don't know ... what we imagine Rossamunds face as?

Yersi- the yeti's jersey

-spoilers-
-but if you've come this far, then I'm still wonderin why your looking in this post which is dedicated to spoilerism-

haha... we knew it was gonna happen (with rossamund that is)...
... well maybe it took me til the lead shot bit to realise something was going on... considering how many odd, yet obvious hints were in the first and second book, im still surprised i didn't pick it up til almost the end of book 2 lol
I must admit I'm not very observant sometimes when I read... oh well...

... as for constructive argumentation (don't even know if thats an actual thing, but it sounds cool) how about... does threnody like rossamund?... ooooooh... lol... yeah I'll stop and go back to my corner now... (damn i gotta stop using so many dots. It's scary)

Psylu: the nickname for a famous psycic(dunno how to spell it) whose name is lulu

as for rossamunds face... it's kinda hard to describe in words, and I don't even have much of a clear image.
To me, it's sorta round and childish, with medium eyes, a small round nose and little, yet plump lips... thats how id best describe it...

RottenPocket said...

I've always had a similar image in my head of Rossamund, but every time I look at D M's profile picture I get confused and think it's that and now the whole thing shape-shifts when I read the books.... It's awkward...

Oulasece: [Ooh-lah-seek] Some weird form of Divination that I can't describe (as if the current forms weren't weird enough).

I think ... not entirely round face, but rounded nose and chin. Somewhat big, innocent eyes, mouth which hangs open in shock alot.

When I was at the Freecon Mr. Cornish showed me the sketchbooks, and one of them was the Rossamund in book 3.

Proque- don't have time now, will make one later

Has anyone seen "Son of Rambow"? Here's a link to a picture for the lead actor:

A little young perhaps, but since Rossamund is described as undergrown, I don't think he's too far off.

D.M. Cornish said...

Actually, my profile picture IS a picture of our young friend with obscure origins.

I often get confused in my head also as the image of rossamund on this sight is very different to my own perception.
But either way it doesn't worry me, it's what's on the inside that counts... lol

RottenPocket said...

Well, I guess that means I pay attention

Hahah, word verification : 'Thinkiti'

...

Something Freckle might say eh?

Noelle- checked the sight. Yeah ... a bit. I pictured Rossamund as a bit darker, with shorter hair and bigger eyes.

So ... Proque ...: A big musical instrument. Played like a mouth organ, into brass tubeing.

Piona- piano spelt badly.

maybe our mental picture of Rossamund is sort of a mix of his actual physical features AND our knowledge of his personality etc, sort of like how you never look quite how you think you do when you look in a mirror

ooo or is this too far down Metaphysical Highway? :)

That's sort of the way I feel about Europe: my image of her doesn't quite match up with the illustration. And I'm completely incapable of picturing her with her hair down.

Stagor: The trait of feeling the need to assure people of one's manhood at every possible opportunity.
